BECKWITH
CHAPMAN RESIDENCE
Oxford, OH
The Beckwith Chapman residence was designed into a southwest facing wooded
slope. As such, the building connects to the ground on each of the three floor
levels. A bridge connects the third floor to the upper hillside, while second
floor decks on the northwest and southeast sides of the building extend the
second floor living area during the summer months. A sinuous, masonry retaining
wall stablilizes the upper slope while a heavy timber wall/bench retains the
lower slope and defines the drive and parking area. Exterior building materials
consist of stained cedar with a standing seam metal roof.
